Both teams have put out strong sides.

The Maori AB's have put out one heck of a backline, and they'll be tough to contain if they can get a reasonable amount of ball.

They won't be afraid to give it some air and will try and run the Lions around at pace, weather allowing.

A win for the Maori ABs will put the Lions in a very difficult place, while I think the Lions need to both win, and show a bit more than we've seen so far, to give themselves (and you lot) a bit of confidence going into the test series starting next weekend.

No idea who is going to win this one. I've already been wrong 3 times on this tour.

Oh… another new thread then???

Sexton’s big chance…. He was a LOT LOT better at the Highlanders… has to kick on.

Doing one for the big games, so I can keep the piss taking of your rugby teams relevant.

I know Ioane and M-Skudder… how many of the others are in the AB squad??

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
Bit surprised that Farrell's on the bench, but I guess they want to give Sexton some game time and Farrell's nailed on for the test side anyway. Plus, we don't want to show all our cards a week before.

I see you've only allowed us a 7 man pack. Looks like you're desperate for a 1 man advantage!

I think our scrum looks superb though. It should be a cracking game and a win for us will be the perfect tonic for the 1st test.

Telling that it was George "5 out of 10" Kruis that he left out.

Just seen that Farrell's injured and has been replaced on the bench by Biggar.

You know - the guy who had Whitelock in his pocket for an hour last weekend.

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
I think the ABs squad players are:

Milner-Skudder, Ngatai, Ioane, McKenzie, Kerr-Barlow, Messam, Dixon, Ioane

James Lowe is probably the form NZ winger in Super Rugby, and you're well aware of Ihaia West's pace and ability.

Damien McKenzie is a hugely talented young bloke, who has spent most of his time being eased into Super Rugby at 15, TKB is unlucky to only be playing for the Maoris, and Messam, Dixon and Ioane are arguably as good a loose forward trio as you'll come across all tour.

Milner-Skudder and Ngatai are on the way back from injury, and you know all about Rieko Ioane after the Blues game.

The tight five are the weakest players, but they're no mugs. All have Super Rugby experience.

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
Of course, there's a little matter of the AB's vs Samoa tonight too. The ABs have gone for the strongest available side - really only missing Kieran Read and Dane Coles from a full strength outfit.

Coles most likely won't feature at all vs Lions, and read should be back for the first test.

The Lions wouldn't have won by 78 Ilford. Not even after 4 matches to prepare, let alone in their first run out.

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
I don't disagree with you. My point is what have you actually gained from thrashing Samoa? Nothing. You'd have probably been better off picking 2 sides from your test squad and playing each other behind closed doors.

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
Well, our first test match of a season is always pretty rusty, so they blew the cobwebs out last night.
A lot of combinations really started to develop like SBW-ALB in the midfield.
Reckon we got a hell of a lot out of that game.

As much as I'd love the Lions to serve up the arrogant All Black's on a platter..sadly we will get torn a new one in all three.

Re: British & Irish Lions vs Maori All Blacks
Gatland calls up another 4 Wales players. Surely just to cover the game midweek to avoid injuries?
